I had the opportunity to visit the Official Opening Ceremony of KTM CKD Factory up north in Jitra, Kedah this afternoon. Motonation Manufacturer Sdn Bhd (Motonation) was established in 2010 focusing in manufacturing and import/export of high end performance motorcycles, which is also the sold distributor of KTM motorcycles in Malaysia.

The Austrian bike makers, KTM, is Europe’s second largest motorcycles manufacturer, and through its collaboration with Motonation has established a KTM local assembly plant here in Koridor Utara Malaysia, particularly Kawasan Perusahaan Bandar Darulaman, Jitra, Kedah. This is the first KTM Complete Knock Down (CKD) assembly plant outside of Austria to serve the South East Asia market. The KTM200 Duke and KTM690 Duke is the first 2 models to be assembled here, which will help to boost the economy and expand the existing automotive industry in Koridor Utara.

RM30 million has been invested by Motonation in this state of the art facility which will create 300 jobs in their 5 years of operation. The plant which includes the Dyno Test Lab (with ABS module) is the first of its kind in the world.
